June 2008

I have to admit, T-Pain is kinda hot. No, correction. T-Pain’s music is kinda hot. I’m starting to realize that I can’t get his hooks out of my head. But his looks, well, that’s a bit more painful.

Question: Does an artist’s image really matter? Short answer is: yes! I realized that more-so when T-Pain said last night at the BET Awards that last year he couldn’t even get a seat to the show. He had to be pretty talented to succeed.

So I want to give it up to T-Pain, who must have gotten a hell of a lot of push back when he was shopping his demo around. Just imagine what label executives said when his package came across their desk. A picture attached that could have possibly hurt their eyes. “Sorry, but I think we’re passing on this one.”

I am buying a T-Pain album, when it comes out (uhhh…did it come out yet??).

Bye.

This is an interesting one, folks. Thankfully, the back and forth video exchanges between Soulja Boy and Ice-T will most certainly not go beyond youtube, and I for one am glad that I don’t have to worry about saying anything that could incite a riot. BUT, I am extremely entertained by Ice-T’s Soulja Boy diss, Soulja Boy’s response rant and then, finally, Ice-T’s answer. To me, the award for winner in this battle, goes to SB because he is 17 and is allowed to act stupid.

1. At least Soulja Boy was funny with it. I mean, Ice-T has zero humor factor. So I watched his latest video, begging for a laugh, and after sitting through the 4 minute video, I was visibly upset that I had wasted time in my morning. Last week, though Soulja Boy went on for a little too long, I remember laughing at the few old jokes he threw towards Ice-T.

2. Ice-T put his son in beef. When I saw Lil’ Ice at the end of the Ice-T video, I was surprised. If I didn’t think Ice-T was acting less like a parent by just doing a video, I lost all hope when I saw he would let his son get in on the publicity. What parent puts their child in a beef??

3. Ice-T was wearing a year 2000 Iverson jersey (thanks to Ketchums for pointing this out). Me, myself…I couldn’t get past seeing Ice-T in what appeared to be his pajamas, but who wears these type of jerseys anymore.

4. I don’t remember Ice-T being that hot. I used to tape Video Music Box every day so i could see it when I got home from school and I always fast forwarded Ice-T’s videos. So when he says good hip hop v. bad hip hop, i’m curious to know what side he thinks he’s on.

C’mon?? You mean to tell me that no one is going to question Lil’ Wayne’s highly impressive first week album sales. It’s not even Christmas time, so I’m a little skeptical when I hear that he pushed 1,005,000 his FIRST WEEK. Record stores don’t even exist anymore, and who buys CDs nowadays? I’m not saying that Lil’ Wayne isn’t the highest in demand, but 1 million? Doesn’t this beat out the Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake sales? (I’ve got to check that but it sounds like it). Say it isn’t so.

I’m surprised that 50 Cent hasn’t released a statement about this (he seems to have a quote about everything else, these days). I’m waiting for 50′s quote on Wayne’s album sales. I can hear it now, in his slow drawl…i saw wayne with a truck outside the record store…sounds like something he would say. only he would say it meaner, and with a sinister laugh…like, ha, ha, ha. and then there would be a phone call of wayne crying on thisis50. No, i’m kidding.

If he did move 1 mil, then congrats to him. At least now we know that hip hop isn’t dead. only nas career just kidding again.

Sorry I haven’t been posting. I will use the excuse that it was my birthday on Saturday, and contrary to the meaning of the word birth”day,” I actually start celebrating on the first of the month.

Anyway, I don’t think you needed me to tell you just how twisted it is that R. Kelly actually got off (no pun intended). I was sure that he was a wrap, but it goes to show you, I do not know everything….LOL.

No back to grinding. I don’t usually post about my self, because I do enough self-absorbed stuff in my normal life, but on here I like to keep it business. However, I feel it necessary to let y’all know that I’ve switched jobs. I have joined the global grind fam (www.globalgrind.com) and if you haven’t already done so, you should check it out. We have a lot of big things planned…but I won’t talk about it, and rather will let you all see.

Also, I’ve had a lot of folks hit me about that  TV One/Black Enterprise panel I did a few weeks ago in North Carolina. I thank them for inviting me to be on, but as you can tell, I was pretty pissed off once the cameras started rolling. I have a lot to say about that, but I will save you the details until I have some more time to explain. One.
