In an interview with the Source magazine last week, I spoke about the Yella Beezy trial and the media’s role in the perception of this case and hip hop, in general. Today, Theodore Thomas, a key witness for the prosecutors claimed he lied in grand jury testimony. The defense attorney for Beezy, whose real name is Markies Conway, cross-examined Thomas who admitted he told federal prosecutors “whatever they wanted” to hear, while under the threat of a RICO charge and a potential life sentence. Thomas was accepted into the Federal Steps diversion program, securing his release from custody and dismissal of an indictment, conveniently after he told investigators what they wanted to hear.
